Located south of Mount Canin, Monte Guarda lies at the end of Val Resia, a wild valley starting from the village of the same name. To reach this place, especially in autumn, particular caution is needed on the road due to the presence of many leaves and high humidity, which make it slippery.
Entering Val Resia, you pass Coritis and shortly afterwards reach a parking area. From there, a 10- minute walk leads to Malga Coot (open only in summer and on weekends from September to November), which offers a splendid panorama. Continue along CAI trail 741 until you reach a fork: the left path goes directly to Monte Guarda, while the right leads to Monte Plagne.
Take the right path to reach Monte Plagne in about 20 minutes (no summit cross or logbook, but marked by the border). From there, by following the little-trodden ridge for about 15 minutes, you arrive at the summit of Monte Guarda. From the top, you can admire the Isonzo Valley to the east, the Canin group to the north, and to the west a vast panorama of all the Friulian peaks.
From here, continue towards the Costantini bivouac, reached in about 30 minutes from the summit, paying attention to the narrow trail (sometimes snowy). From the bivouac, take the descending trail back to the Malga, and in about 1 hour you will return to the car.
Attenzione alla presenza di neve o ghiaccio in periodo autunnale e invernale in quanto l’itinerario si svolge quasi tutto in ombra.
