Monte Cuarnan

Monte Cuarnan is the southernmost formation on the eastern side of the Tagliamento, facing directly opposite Monte Cuar. From its summit, reached by a moderately intense hike, one can enjoy an uncommon panorama: on one side the wide Friulian plain, and on the other the ridges of the Carnic Prealps.

Coming from the upper part of Gemona, continue in the direction of Malga Cuarnan, leaving your car at the parking area along the dirt road before the malga. From here, either by trail (10 minutes) or along the dirt road (15 minutes), you reach the malga (1067 m), from where you take trail CAI 714.

The trail climbs up the northern slope of Cuarnan, reaching the summit (1372 m) in about 45 minutes. After enjoying the view and catching your breath, you can follow the western ridge by taking trails CAI 715 and then 717, passing the Elio Pischiutti shelter (1338 m), and descending again towards the dirt road.
